Life of a Mom: installment fourteen, sh… Poo happens

It’s probably happened to most of us who have children, at one time or another. Or so I tell myself. One of my children had a tonsillectomy three days ago and hasn’t been able to eat. So she wanted me to make some instant potatoes, much smoother than my mashed potatoes. No problem! I didn’t have much interest in peeling potatoes today, anyway. My dear husband asked me to make a salad and he headed out to the grill to cook the meat. He was even sweet enough to change the two-year-old’s poopy diaper before going out. Awesome! As I sliced a cucumber into the salad, the milk and water heating on the stove, the two-year-old came into the kitchen, held up her right foot and said, “Poopy, Mommy.” Oh no! That poopy diaper Daddy changed must have been a doozy. One look at the floor where little Miss stood with her poopy foot revealed several splats of icky stinky brown. Kitchen and dining room floors, both peppered with splats. It looked like a war zone, if poo was a weapon. I think it could be an effective one. Anyway, I cleaned the poo off the two-year-old and the floors and returned to the kitchen, where the milk and water for the potatoes had, of course, boiled over. What a mess! The family seems to be enjoying the meal and no one is covered or walking in poo at present, so I guess all’s well that ends well.

Nearly 90° today made perfect weather for the sprinkler, which, in turn, made perfect mud for the two-year-old.

113/365+ proof of God’s love

A positive word about my job:  I’m required to take regular first aid/CPR/AED training.  This is a great blessing sometimes and tonight, I found God’s love in the calm that came over me when my little two-year-old choked on a peanut butter sandwich and I had to do the Heimlich maneuver.  Thank God for being with us at that moment!

101/365+ proof of God’s love

Watching as my sweet husband reads (and rereads) a book to our two-year-old, I find proof of God’s love in the knowledge that even in bad, there is good.  Financially, it is worrying that my husband lost his job, but the silver lining to this gray cloud is that we now have more time to spend as a family.

Day 44/365 photos

Meet Tractor Lou.  At the age of two, my now 9-year-old thus named this cute-in-a-sort-of-homely-way dolly.  At that time, we lived in an old mobile home, just she and I and a stray cat I don’t believe I ever bothered to name.

My daughter would hold Tractor Lou under one arm and hop onto her little green tractor riding toy & ride it the length of the hallway, back & forth.

Now, she is almost ten years old, almost as tall as I am, and has a two-year-old sister who carries Tractor Lou (renamed Lucy by my older and of course now much more mature daughter) under her arm.

Lucy, sometimes known as Tractor Lou, is one lucky little dolly to have been so loved by two amazing little girls.
